Anthony Leoni
BIOGRAPHY:
Anthony was born in Genova, Italy and raised in Camrose, Alberta.  His ancestor G.B. Piccardi was a Judge of the Kingdom of Italy in Torino in the early 20th century.  Anthony moved to Vancouver to attend UBC Law School in 2000, and other than one year serving as a Law Clerk to Justices of the Court of Appeal and Court of Queen's Bench of Alberta in Edmonton, he has called British Columbia home since that time.

Anthony joined Jarvis McGee Rice LLP as Associate Counsel in January 2016.  Prior to joining the firm, Anthony was a partner at a downtown Vancouver boutique firm specializing in insurance defence, including representing the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia.  Anthony has conducted dozens of trials and contested hearings in virtually every Supreme Court location in the Province, several appeals in the Court of Appeal, and has argued cases before the Worker's Compensation Appeal Tribunal and WorkSafeBC.  Among his many and varied Court successes Anthony counts family compensation claims arising out of fatal motor vehicle accidents, brain and spinal injury cases, professional negligence cases, defamation cases for libel and slander, and fishing quota matters.

Anthony loves the Courtroom and his focus throughout his career has been effective advocacy on behalf of his clients.    He now has restricted his practice to advocating on behalf of injured persons against ICBC and other insurance companies.   The knowledge he gained as a defense lawyer handling complex claims for ICBC puts Anthony in a unique position to advise his injured clients with respect to ICBC’s approach to all aspects of personal injury cases.  Anthony also brings the compassion and empathy that he developed in his capacity as Chairperson of the Canada Pension Plan Review Tribunal (2009 to 2012) to his representation of victims of motor vehicle accidents.

Anthony is a tenacious and effective negotiator and works hard to achieve a settlement out of court for his clients if possible. However, Anthony is willing to take any case to trial if the insurer has undervalued the claim.  His skills in trial procedure and persuasion even the playing field between injured persons and insurers.
